The 3rd graders visited Askinosie’s Chocolate factory, and what a “sweet” experience it was! We learned which countries the cocoa beans are harvested from. At the factory we saw the many different parts the cocoa bean can be separated into. Tasting the pure chocolate was a “bitter-sweet” experience. The children are used to candy bars and not such a concentration of pure chocolate.
We also learned that Mr. Askinosie “gives back” in a lot of different ways to the city of Springfield. Next time we eat chocolate we will wonder where its beans were harvested from.
