Band and Choir Concert

The choir and band concert was on Monday. What a wonderful celebration of music and children. We heard from the Singing Saints under the direction of Mrs. Stephanie Richter. The Beginning, Jazz and Advanced bands shared their songs under the direction of Mr. Andy Wang. DVDs are available from all of our performances this Christmas. See Mr. Wanner for more information.

8th Grade Helping Kindergarten Friends

SLS's 8th graders assisted the Kindergarten with a special “secret” art project on Thursday.
The big kids helped with holding and pasting with Mr. Gerdes’ special juice. It’s always great fun seeing big kids and little kids working together.

Pastor Canaday Leads Chapel

Pastor Canaday, serving River of Life just east of Springfield on Hwy 60, came to lead our last chapel of the year. He talked about gift giving and the best gift ever. We sang some terrific Christmas songs and prayed for family and friends. Pastor Matt is a recent graduate from our St Louis Seminary and is good friends with our very own Pastor Parvey.

SLS Choir Sings at Battlefield Mall

Last night the SLS Singing Saints sang for the shoppers at our local Battlefield Mall. They filled an hour with beautiful singing. They were a great witness for our school and our Savior's birth.
The choir is lead by music teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Richter. Thanks choir for your time and efforts.

Mrs. Lynn Students Study Change in Matter-Bread

Gramma Brehmer came to third grade to help with a science project. Flour, water, yeast, a little oil and a touch of salt and sugar, next mix and mix again. Now wait and watch the dough grow. Punch it down and wait again. Making bread is a slow process. Bake it now and enjoy the smell. Let it cool, cut and butter and enjoy another successful science experiment. Thanks Gramma B.

Mr. Beckman's First Graders Visit Crosslines

Mr. Beckman's first graders collected toys to donate to Crosslines for thier annual toy give away for needy families. The students visited both the Crosslines building where food is given to families and to the Springfield armory where toys are collected and sorted for Saturday's give away.

Grades 1-4 Christmas Program

Mrs. Richter and the a cast of thousands present their Christmas program on Monday evening. The house was full of parents, grandparents and other interested guests of Redeemer.

The choir sang with great joy and swayed with great energy. They were all little angels for the production of Archangel Gabriel's Awesome Adventure.

Having Fun At the Nixa PreSchool

Redeemer has a special preschool class that is housed at our Nixa location. 15-18 kids attend and daily hear about the love of Jesus. These photographs were take a few weeks ago when the weather was a little milder. Ms. Adams is our pre-school teacher and she is assisted by Mrs. Schmidt and Mrs. Ledbetter. Mrs. Stouder's Hand On Science

The second graders were all about the chemistry lesson on goop. They mixed, they formed and just in general they enjoyed this lesson on matter. Science can be so much fun.

Pre-Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast

In November, the Pre-K class shared a Thanksgiving Feast together. Families brought in portions of a traditional Thanksgiving meal to share family style. Before our meal the students had fun making a craft and sharing a thankful song for their parents. The children made placemats to give our meal a festive look. Those were sent home as keepsakes of our fun day.

Preschool Service Project

“Mrs. Swearingen’s preschool class participated in a service project during the month of November. Baby items were collected and donated to Crosslines, an agency of the Council of Churches of the Ozarks. Diapers & wipes, baby food & formula, and clothing for boys and girls are most needed. We are thankful for the many blessings God gives us, so we share these gifts with those in greater need.”

SLS Students Are Thankful For

With all of next week off at SLS, the students and staff were celebrating Thanksgiving this week. Pastor Maas lead our chapel worship and we listed things were were thankful for. Here are some of those "I'm Thankful For" lists... We hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving celebration.

Mrs. Appelquist - Principal For The Day

At last year's SLS Dinner Auction, someone purchased the "Principal For The Day" item being auctioned for Mrs. Appelquist. We often hope a child's parent will buy this but no not this time... This meant that Mr. Baker needed to switch to secretary for the day. Above you see him taking an important memo from Principal Appelquest. Mrs. A did very well for the day and kept everything running smoothly. Mr. Baker, on the other hand, had lots of trouble being the "Lead Secretary" for the long, long day.

2nd Grade Plays

Second grade recently completed a unit on Physical Science. To show what they have learned, each child completed a project on a topic of their choice from the unit. Some children chose to make games, or puzzles, while some chose to put on a skit. In these pictures 3 different groups of children are showing how plants grow, what is needed for plants to grow and how seeds are scattered.

Mr. Heilman & Fourth Grade Lead Chapel

SLS has chapel worship each Wednesday during the school year. Each classroom leads one of these chapel services. Mr. Heilman and his fourth grade led our worship this week. The theme was sharing and caring for one another. We heard the Bible story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. We talked about ways to share our faith and earth possessions with people around us.

Mr. Heilman's chapels are famous for containing a game or quiz. This year's chapel was no exception. The Candy Car pictured above was used to quiz the students about the Bible story. The fourth grade did a terrific job. Many fourth graders also shareds a musical talent before and during the chapel worship. We heard students playing the piano, drums, band instruments and using their voices to praise their Lord.

SLS Awarded Walmart Grant for OEA Project

Some years ago Redeemer removed a house just east of the school as a part of the parking lot project. SLS has dreamed for a few years about using this now vacant lot as an Outdoor Education Area or OEA. Mr. Beckman, who loves all things outdoors, has hoped for an opportunity to share his love of gardening with our students.

We recently applied for a Walmart Grant to provide funding for this project. We were notified we had been approved to receive $2000 for our OEA project. Work has begun on the low fence to contain the area and raised beds will be built and filled with soil in anticipation of our spring planting.

Mrs. Wendy Larkin, an SLS parent, works for Sam's Club South and encouraged our grant writing efforts. She is pictured above with Mr. Baker. Watch for our progress on Main Street.

State Volleyball Tournament

This past weekend, we participated in the LSAM State Volleyball tournament. Our Lady Saints had a very successful weekend. On Saturday, we played to a 5-5 record in pool play which placed us in the Silver Bracket on Sunday. After three hard fought matches, we placed 2nd in the Silver bracket. We were also awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament. This is truly an honor and certainly reflective of our girls attitude towards the game, each other and other teams. They also earned a 3rd place award in the LSAM Idol contest with their dance routine.

We had a great season and I would like to take the time to thank the girls for Playing Hard and Having Fun! Thanks also to the parents for your constant support and thanks to the fans for coming to our games and encouraging us in many other ways. Thanks even more to our Heavenly Father who has so richly blessed this team with so many gifts. To Him be the glory...WAY TO GO - SAINTS!! Thanks to all - Steve Jasinski

Walk - A - Thon

It was a great day for a walk to raise money for new desk in some of our classrooms. The SLS students and staff love to exercise and have such fun just being together. The kids did a great job and a good time was had by all.

Sixth Grade Visits George Washington Carver National Park

The Sixth Grade Class went on a field trip to George Washington Carver's boyhood home in Diamond, Missouri. The students learned about different uses of the peanut, they got to see where his home was located and got to see the woods that he enjoyed so much as a child. They were able to make peanut milk in the laboratory. They got to see how an old schoolhouse looked and listen to one of the speeches he gave.

Mrs. Schaller's Sixth Grade Science Class

Mrs. Schaller's Sixth Grade class has been doing experiments this past week. They had a week full of experiments including Dancing Worms, Three Layer Float, Matter of Degrees and Oobleck - Solid or Liquid? They all had fun and learned a lot!

Pre-Kindergarten Goes To Ruttledge-Wilson Farm

The Pre-Kindergarten class went to Ruttledge Wilson Farm and got to see mini-horses, milk a pretend cow, sit in saddles and see different farm equipment such as a tractor and a barn. It was a chilly day, but they had fun!

The students, teachers and fans of all ages came together to support the Volleyball team before the tournament this weekend! The girls will be participating in the All Missouri Lutheran School Volleyball Tournament this weekend at St. Paul and Concordia High School. We pray the Lord's Blessing on their travel and the games they play. GO TEAM!!

Mr. Gerdes and the Kindergarten Go On A Nature Hike

It looked like rain but we were fine and had a great hike.

Scholastic Book Fair!

Each fall SLS host a Scholastic Book Fair to encourage and enrich the reading skills of our students. This fair is scheduled to overlap the Parent-Teacher Conferences. To get things going this year Clifford TD went to our classrooms to greet the students. Clifford was hard to hug do to his huge girth.

Preschool Visits the Apple Orchard

Mrs. Swearingen’s preschool class completed their apple unit with a trip to Sunshine Valley Farm, where they had hands-on experience with apple-picking. The children learned apples can be red, yellow or green, with funny names like Granny Smith, Enterprise, and Mutzu. The day was perfect for a cool walk in the orchard, followed by warm apple cake from the bakery.

The middle school students have been busy learning new things. The 6th graders have been learning about the Periodic Table and the different elements. The 7th graders just completed lessons on the Renaissance in Social Studies. Each student chose a famous person from that era to research and then write a biographical poem about that person. Stop in the hallway to see the excellent learning that is going on at SLS!

We are trying this blog site to bring you "What's New@SLS". We hope you find the pictures and blog information interesting and entertaining. We will feature lots of our kids but will not name them for their safety.
